ROCHESTER - Some half dozen police officers and a K9 unit scoured the streets of the southern downtown on Sunday looking for a man who broke into a Charles Street home, stole some blankets and then broke into the garage where he went to sleep.

The female homeowner arrived home around 4 p.m. to find the man wrapped in several of her blankets inside the garage. When he saw here, he bolted toward the library, she told police dispatchers.

"The homeowner yelled at him, and he took off running," Rochester Police Capt. Todd Pinkham said on Tuesday. "They said the blankets were inside the house so he must have gone inside, got the blankets and then went to sleep in the garage."

Some half dozen officers responded searching the areas around Kentucky Fried Chicken on Columbus Avenue and the Knight Street Cumby's.

A short time later a K9 unit arrived and began a track which was unsuccessful.

No description of the suspect was immediately available as the report was not yet finished, but the reporting caller said he was last seen wearing all black clothing with a hoodie.

Pinkham said the suspect fled with a backpack, but it's not clear yet whether anything was stolen from the house other than the blankets.
