Woman, pooch hurt in Rochester crosswalk accident

ROCHESTER - A woman walking her dog in a city crosswalk was hurt on Monday night when she was struck by a passing motorist.

The accident occurred in the area of Citizens Bank on North Main Street around 10:30 p.m. when police say Stacey Harris, 30, of Strafford was driving southbound on North Main Street in a Kia Optima. Police say she struck the dog that was being walked by Nicholas Steele, 27 of Rochester.

Steele was transported to Frisbie Hospital by EMS for what were described as nonlife-threatening injuries, while the dog, who sustained nonlife-threatening, taken to an emergency veterinary clinic by the owners as a precaution.

Harris was issued a warning for failure to yield to a pedestrian in a crosswalk. Weather conditions may have been a factor in the collision, police said.
