Winnipesaukee cruise focuses on water issues

Moose Mountains Regional Greenways will sponsor a fun and informational “Water Quality Cruise” on the Winnipesaukee Belle Charter Boat on Sunday, June 9, from 2:30-4:30 p.m.

Pat Tarpey, Executive Director of the Lake Winnipesaukee Watershed Association will discuss potential water quality issues in Lake Winnipesaukee and how the group is addressing them. Her presentation out on the lake will be complemented by live music entertainment during the boat rides out and back.

Tarpey has been actively engaged in Lake Winnipesaukee water quality issues and concerns for the past 12 years.  Her accomplishments include coordinating water quality monitoring of the lake and managing several successful watershed programs, including the award-winning “Winnipesaukee Gateway” management plan and website.

She will receive an master’s degree in Environmental Science & Policy from Plymouth State University later this June. Tarpey will show maps of the region and talk about how the shape and use of the land in the various sub-watersheds around Lake Winnipesaukee affect the water quality in different bays and lake areas.

 There will be ample opportunity to enjoy the scenery, refreshments, and the toe-tapping traditional music of Keith Fletcher and Cathy King.

The Winnipesaukee Belle offers complimentary hors d’oeuvres and a cash bar.

The 2-hour cruise will leave from the Wolfeboro Town Docks. Preregistration is requested; the prepaid cost is $32. Late registrants pay $35 at the gate, if spaces are available.
