ROCHESTER - On this dazzling, sun-splashed Saturday with nary a cloud in the sky Rochester's annual Wings and Wheels extravaganza seemed extra special.
"Oh, we love coming to this every year," said George Godsoe of Rochester, who was there with his wife and two young children. "We were sorry they didn't have it last year, but we're glad they're having it now."
His two daughters, Madyson, 10, and Ayla, 5, were both excited to get their Wings and Wheels day started by picking up some Rochester Fire Department swag from a Fire Department kiosk not far from the main entrance to the Skyhaven Airport grounds.

Also on hand were pilots from the Young Eagles, a program created by the U.S. Experimental Aircraft Association that allows kids 8-17 to enjoy a free airplane ride to introduce them to aviation.
Folks could also enjoy a helicopter ride, check out dozens of commercial, military and nonprofit booths, bounce houses and a slew of food trucks.
The biggest ground-based draw was the huge assortment of vintage and specialty vehicles, where Sal Ferraiol and John Simpson, both of Rochester, were found admiring a 1949 Mercury four-door coupe.
BEAUTIFUL BUICK: Glenn Ratte of Wakefield looks over a 1987 Buick Grand National, a premium model of a 1987 Buck Regal, said owner Brendan Sullivan of Dover. |
"I don't see how they got this car so low to the ground, and those must be specialty windows they're so small," said Ferraiol.
An organizer of the antique car exhibit said there were 112 entries in all.
"This isn't the biggest car show in the state, but it's up there," he said.
The event held at Skyhaven Airport in Rochester opened at 10 a.m., and by 11 a.m. there were already a thousand folks, mostly with kids in tow, on hand.
The event also featured static aircraft, face painting, military aircraft, a live DJ, vendors, and skydivers from Skydive New England in Lebanon, Maine.
