To the editor:
Because 13 brave state representatives dared oppose the proposed new county nursing home project by voting no and standing firm that we need a slow, meticulous and detailed process moving forward, the price tag of a new Strafford County nursing home has gone from $170 million to $140 million dollars.
WOW! A $30 million dollar savings in just a week. Imagine how much we can save the taxpayers if we roll up our sleeves and are actually allowed to be part of this process.
Imagine if the process followed the letter of the law-which I will be explaining tonight at the workshop - and was totally transparent. As one who dared vote against the supplemental appropriation, let me go on public record as being in favor of a new county nursing home.
An efficient to run and staff home built with no secrets and no surprises. The only way we will get that is by all of us working together as a team. Trying to push a new nursing home based on the ideas of a couple of people and not informing and including all who are part of Strafford County just isn't going to work-PERIOD!!
It is hoped that as we move forward, we will obey the laws of N.H. and not skirt them and we will do a slow and deliberate process as stated above.
Lastly, a recent Letter to the editor by a political hack/State Legislator accused me of being a "Free Stater." For the record, I was born at Frisbie Memorial almost 66 years ago and have always been a New Hampshire and Strafford County native. I take umbrage at such a false partisan attack and an apology should be given to all the Strafford County native residents like me.
Further, the same letter states we got all the info we needed to vote to spend $170 million - now $140 million, again $30 million less in a week. We did not! One of the most important pieces of information we did not get is exactly how much our county portion of our tax rate will increase if we had moved forward. Well, Representative Salloway, you stated you have all the answers, please tell us how much more we will have to pay in taxes, in addition to super inflation on food, fuel, and living quarters if we had voted to spend $170 million last week.
Name calling by partisan political hacks are just not productive and have a negative effect on what we are trying to do and what we were were elected to do.
