ROCHESTER - Rochester Main Street announce recently that they have completed the construction of a new deck stage in Wyandotte Walkway, which is next to Fallen Leaf Bistro.

According to organizers, the walkway leading pedestrians from North Main Street to the Wyandotte Mill had been underutilized for years. The deck was constructed above a garden that has not been well maintained.

Main Street President Jeff Bisson said the organization is thrilled to have carried the project through to fruition

"We're excited to show off the new deck stage in the Wyandotte Walkway," he said. "The area has been an eyesore for many years, so we added Edison string lighting and a deck to activate the space. It's our hope that the walkway will be used for community activities in the future."

Bisson says the deck can be used for takeout dining, live music and other outdoor activities.

To celebrate the opening of the deck, Rochester Main Street will be hosting a party on Aug. 23, starting at 6 p.m. The event also serves as the kickoff to Moonlight Madness, an event that encourages shoppers and diners to come to the downtown for a variety of specials and discounts offered by participating businesses.

"It's a good night for people to walk around and check out all the unique products, services, and specials," said Bisson. "We're thrilled to see all the progress made over the past several years. We hope events like Moonlight Madness will attract new businesses to downtown. Activities like this could be the reason an entrepreneur moves to downtown as opposed to a shopping center or mall setting."
