Wells woman, 50, dies in snowmobile crash in northern Maine

JOHNSON MOUNTAIN TOWNSHIP, Maine - A Wells woman died on Sunday in a snowmobiling accident in northern Somerset County.

Tanya Hanson, 50 was following her husband on ITS 87 in Johnson Mountain Township around 2:30 p.m. when she failed to negotiate a left hand turn in the trail and crashed into trees on the right side of the trail.

An oncoming snowmobiler witnessed the accident and contacted 911, prompting a response from the Maine Warden Service, Jackman Fire and Ambulance and Redington-Fairview Ambulance.

Emergency medical personnel performed CPR but Hanson succumbed to her injuries.

Hanson was driving alone on a 2018 Ski Doo Renegade Enduro and was wearing a helmet. The crash remains under investigation.
