MANCHESTER - Two Manchester man seeking to elude police crashed near the Mall of New Hampshire after a brief pursuit on Tuesday.
The incident unfolded around 11:15 p.m. when a State Trooper stopped a vehicle for speeding on the Exit 1 off ramp on Interstate 293. As the trooper made his initial approach to identify the driver, the vehicle fled onto South Willow Street where a brief pursuit ensued.
The suspect vehicle then turned into the Mall of New Hampshire access road driving on the wrong side of the road where it crashed into another motorist as the driver was making a left turn to enter the mall parking lot. The suspect vehicle then spun out of control and collided with a stopped vehicle on the other side of the intersection, police said in a statement sent today.
Two male suspects bailed on foot from the vehicle running in the direction of the mall where the trooper was able to apprehend the passenger shortly following the crash. The driver of the vehicle was taken into custody in the vicinity of the Macy's building without further incident after surrendering himself to other Troopers and a K-9 team moments later.
The driver was identified as Avian Farrell, 21, of Manchester. The passenger, Ra, King Santiago, 18, is also of Manchester.
Troopers subsequently found that both Farrell and Santiago had multiple warrants. Both were held on preventative detention as a result of the warrants and new criminal charges, which include reckless conduct, disobeying an officer, and resisting arrest. Both were transported to area hospitals to receive treatment for injuries sustained in the crash. The other motorists involved were not injured.
Farrell and Santiago were scheduled to appear in Hillsborough Superior Court today.
