The wife and child of a Troy man were shot multiple times prior to his being fatally shot in a standoff with police on the I-95 bridge connecting New Hampshire and Maine.
The Office of Chief Medical Examiner identified the deceased adult male as 37-year-old Trent Weston of Troy, N.H. who died as a result of multiple gunshot wounds.
The OCME also identified Trent Weston's deceased child as 8-year-old Benson Weston of Troy, who died of multiple gunshot wounds.
The investigation into these deaths and the suspected homicide in Troy, New Hampshire involving Trent Weston's wife, 37-year-old Brittany Weston, remains ongoing by police from New Hampshire and Maine.
The New Hampshire Office of the Chief Medical Examiner conducted an autopsy on Brittany Weston on Friday and determined her cause of death as multiple gunshot wounds.
The tragic events began to unfold Thursday around 2:05 a.m. when York Police received a 911 call from a male stating that he had been involved in a fight with his wife in Troy, N.H., and she was dead.
Soon after New Hampshire State Police responded to the residence in Troy and located a deceased female.
Then around 2:30 a.m., Kittery Police located the male's vehicle on the Piscataqua River Bridge parked on the southbound side of Interstate-95 in Maine. Law enforcement agencies from New Hampshire and Maine converged on the scene and tried to negotiate with the male, during which the bridge was shut down, according to a Maine Dept. of Safety press release.
Negotiations were ultimately unsuccessful, and the male exited the vehicle and raised a firearm forcing Maine State Police Trooper Craig Nilsen and two New Hampshire State Police troopers to respond with deadly force.
The male subject was located deceased in the water below and declared dead at the scene. Law enforcement officers on scene the located an eight-year-old boy fatally shot in the backseat of the vehicle.
The officer-involved shooting is being investigated by the Maine Attorney General's Office.
