WELLS, Maine - A tractor trailer crash on the Maine Turnpike early this morning blocked off both southbound and northbound lanes in Wells.
The accident occurred during a downpour around 2:20 a.m. near mile marker 22 drawing Maine State Police to the scene where a preliminary investigation revealed that the tractor trailer was traveling southbound in the rain when the driver lost control of his vehicle, went off the roadway to the left and became intertwined with the guardrail.
The disabled tractor trailer was loaded with plumbing supplies, which were strewn across the norhbound lanes, shutting down two passing lanes in each direction.
The operator of the Granite Group tractor trailer, 73-year-old Larry Beaugeard of Dunbarton, New Hampshire, was transported to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
All lanes were reported reopened shortly before 8 a.m. today.
