DOVER - All three Rochester men arrested in the June kidnapping and assault of a 21-year-old man in Rochester have been indicted by a Strafford County grand jury.

Dylan Madore, 22, of 58A Chestnut St., Garrett Pehowic, 21, of 17B Knight St. and Anthony M. Smith, 23, of 193 Pleasant St, face up to 22 years apiece if convicted on kidnap and assault charges listed in indictment documents.

The bizarre kidnapping unfolded around 6:15 p.m. on June 13 when police received a 911 report of an adult being kidnapped. At the time, it was stated that a 21-year-old male had been abducted and beaten by three people. The call stated the male was then forced into a vehicle, but was able to break a window and escape before calling 911.

The victim was taken to Frisbie Memorial Hospital with what were described as nonlife threatening injuries

At the time of the arrest Madore was charged with kidnapping, conspiracy to commit second degree assault, possession of a controlled drug with intent to distribute and possession of a controlled drug, while Pehowic was charged with kidnapping and conspiracy to commit second degree assault and Smith was charged with kidnapping and second degree assault.

Madore, Pehowic and Smith remain in custody at Strafford County Jail on high bail.

According to the indictments, the three while acting in concert did "confine (the victim) ... when they kept him in a motor vehicle and stating words to the effect of 'we are going to take you to the woods in Maine and kill you.'" The three are also accused of acting in concert when they strangled the victim.

The most recent Strafford County grand jury indictments were handed down on Aug. 16 and released on Wednesday.

An indictment is not an indication of guilt, rather that enough evidence has been gathered to warrant a trial.
