ROCHESTER - A teenage bicyclist was seriously injured late Friday night when they collided with a Nissan sedan near the intersection Brock Street and Columbus Avenue.
Emergency personnel arriving on scene around 10:30 p.m., began tending to the 17-year-old bicyclist, who had sustained serious injuries. The teen was transported to Portsmouth Regional Hospital with serious injuries and later transferred to Boston Children's Hospital.
Rochester Police say the teen was struck by a white 2011 Nissan Altima and was transported to Portsmouth Regional Hospital with serious injuries and later transferred to Boston Children's Hospital.
The Strafford County Regional Technical Accident Reconstruction Team responded to assist Rochester Police with the investigation. Though the investigation is still ongoing, preliminary reports indicate the bicycle was traveling down Brock Street towards the Columbus Ave intersection, crossed Columbus Ave from Brock Street and was struck by the Altima.
Rochester Police Capt. Todd Pinkham said no charges are expected for the driver of the Altima, adding neither speed nor alcohol were issues in the crash.
Police did, however, issue a warning to bicyclist, urging them to wear a well fitted helmet and bright colored or reflective clothing, especially at night. They also urged bicyclist to outfit their bikes with front, rear and side reflectors.
"As a bicyclist riding on the street, remember to obey all traffic laws (obey traffic lights, signs/signals and lane markings) and to go with the flow of traffic, not against it," Rochester Police added on their Facebook page.

Neither the name nor sex of the bicyclist was released.
