LIMINGTON, Maine - State and local police are on the lookout today for two suspects who fled the scene after the vehicle they were in rear-ended a school bus packed with children.
The collision occurred on Friday around 2:20 p.m. in the area of 419 Sokokis Avenue in Limington. Police say the school bus was headed southbound on Sokokis Avenue and slowed down as it approached Axelsen Road when a four-door sedan crashed into the back of the bus. The damage to both vehicles was extensive, and both were towed from the scene, according to a statement sent out Saturday by Dept. of Safety spokesperson Shannon Moss.
Troopers also learned that the occupants of the sedan, two white males who appeared to be in their 20s or 30s, exited the sedan and fled the scene on foot, heading into the woods nearby. A K9 track was conducted and an article of clothing belonging to one of the suspects was located. However, the males are still at large.
The school bus was transporting 13 children at the time of the accident. Neither the children on the bus nor the driver were injured.
The investigation is ongoing with criminal charges pending.
