DOVER - A Strafford County judge on Wednesday sentenced a 73-year-old Strafford man to at least 25 years in state prison for the attempted murder of his daughter-in-law.
Guy Leighton Sr. said it was an accident when he struck her with his car on Nov. 14, 2022, but a jury in July found otherwise. It took them less than a day to find him guilty.
During sentencing prosecutors said the victim suffered severe and debilitating lifelong injuries from the incident in which she was run over multiple times.
"To this day, I firmly believe his only regret was he wasn't successful in taking me from this world," the woman said while giving a statement during Wednesday's hearing.
The victim spent several months in a hospital recovering from being run over.
Both Leighton and the victim lived on adjacent properties on Crown Point Road.
