SALEM - An East Boston man driving at 111 mph on Interstate 93 was among numerous vehicles spotted by police aircraft traveling over 90 mph during the Friday morning commute.
The effort to reduce dangerous speeders was undertaken by troopers from the Special Enforcement Unit, who work to reduce speeds and other hazardous driving behavior.
Trooper Thomas Lombardi was observing traffic northbound in the State Police Aircraft around 8:35 when he observed a Buick Sedan traveling at 111 mph on I-93 in Salem.
Lombardi radioed Trooper First Class Scott Garton, who stopped the vehicle in Salem where the operator was identified as William Martinez-Torres, 39, of East Boston, Mass.
Martinez-Torres was summonsed for reckless operation and is due to appear in the 10th Circuit - District Division - Salem Court on Dec 8.
Throughout the rest of the morning commute the Special Enforcement Unit, utilizing the State Police Aircraft, were able to identify 70 motor vehicle violations to include 31 operators traveling over 90 mph.
The New Hampshire State Police Special Enforcement Unit regularly interdicts elevated speed violations and other aggressive driving behaviors. The members of the unit patrol across the state often utilizing the State Police aircraft during commuter traffic periods and holiday travel times with the goal of keeping New Hampshire's roadways safe for all residents and visitors.
