LEBANON, Maine - A parachutists was seriously injured on Monday during a jump at Skydive New England in Lebanon.
York County deputies and Lebanon Rescue responded to the scene a little before noon for a reported injured skydiver. Initial reports were that the male was semi-conscious with difficult breathing, but when deputies arrived, the male was conscious, alert and talking.
As a result of an initial investigation by deputies, it appears that Manny Silva, 57, of Dartmouth, Mass., was unable to 'flair" (maneuver used to slow prior to landing) causing an extremely hard impact. Silva was transported by Life Flight and believed to have serious but nonlife-threatening injuries.
