Sheriff's deputy shot during early morning disturbance call

MINOT, Maine - An Androscoggin County Sheriff's Deputy responding to an early morning disturbance in Minot was shot while investigating the incident.

Sheriff's deputies arrived at 1089 Woodman Hill Road around 4:05 a.m. where there was an altercation during which a deputy was shot in the leg, according to a statement from Maine Dept. of Safety spokesperson Shannon Moss.

The Deputy was transported to Central Maine Medical Center in Lewiston where he will undergo surgery. The Deputy is expected to survive.

Following the altercation a fire was started at the residence drawing crews from area fire departments that quickly put out the blaze.

The male subject remains in custody, and there is no threat to the public, police say.
