SANFORD - The Sanford Police Department is investigating a Tuesday night robbery at the Main Street Lil Mart.
Police say a white male, about 5-foot-10 with a thin build, entered the store at 1439 Main St. around 8:20 and asked for change. When the clerk opened the register, the suspect reached across the counter and grabbed money from the till. He then then fled the store and was last seen heading south behind Sanford Institute for Savings.
The male was dressed in a dark hooded sweatshirt, camouflage pants, and was wearing camouflage gloves. An undisclosed amount of money was stolen.
There were no injuries reported or weapons displayed. An alarm was sounded immediately and police arrived within two minutes. The area was cordoned off and a police K-9 was called to the scene to conduct a track. Members of Sanford Police Department's Criminal Investigation Division are investigating and looking for any help from the public. Detective Sgt. Matthew Jones said if anyone has any information they can call Sanford Police and choose to remain anonymous if they want.
Video of the suspect has been released and will also be posted to the Sanford Police Department Facebook page the morning. This incident remains under investigation.
