SHAPLEIGH - A Sanford man is behind bars today after he was arrested in the theft of a pistol from a Shapleigh marina.
Police say the incident occurred around 9 a.m. on Friday when the owner of Lakeside Marina in Shapleigh checked his pistol cabinet shortly after two men had left and found a FIE Titan 25 Cal. ACP missing from the pistol cabinet.
YSCO Deputy Dan Shaw reviewed surveillance video and posted those videos on social media leading to tipsters identifying two suspects.
Shaw and other York County Deputies eventually located the men and after an interview, arrested John Jalbert Jr., 29, of Sanford. Deputies also recovered the firearm and a holster suspected of being stolen from the store.
Jalbert was transported to the York County Jail and charged with theft by unauthorized taking or transfer, a Class B felony.
Jalbert remains in jail pending posting a $1000 bail. He will appear in Alfred Superior Court on Monday for his initial appearance.
The man he was with at the marina has not been charged.
