ROCHESTER - In June 2022, following the retirement of Chris Bowlen, City Manager Blaine Cox announced that Lauren Krans would be promoted from assistant director to director of the Recreation Department.

Krans, the department's first female director, has been with the city for eight years.

She earned a master's degree in public administration from the University of New Hampshire, was a member of the Leadership Seacoast Class of 2017, and is a certified public manager through the state of New Hampshire.

Prior to working full-time for the Rec Department, she was a Spanish teacher and led the Language Department at Spaulding High School and worked as a rec camp coordinator during the summer months. She is also the proud mother of two young boys.

She said she's looking forward to working with residents to foster healthier and happier lives through working together.

"Community connections are a huge theme for me," she said. "I want to meet more community members, hear their ideas, and build connections that will help our team plan for the future of recreation here in Rochester."

Krans will be hosting a program called 'Meet the Rec. Director' at various parks and recreation facilities, via the department's Facebook page and website. The program aims to introduce the community to the new face of the department and spread the word about its various program offerings and activities.

"This is a very exciting time for the City of Rochester," said Krans. "Our community is growing leaps and bounds and our department is committed to enhancing and growing recreational opportunities for all ages and abilities."
