FOXBOROUGH, Mass. - The New England Revolution soccer team honored a Rochester, N.H., teenager for her contributions to Make-A-Wish initiative during Saturday's game.
Lucy Girourard, 14, was recognized as the Hero of the Match at the team's home game against Atlanta United FC.
Girourard was recognized during a pregame ceremony for her dedication to the Make-A-Wish Foundation and her own children's ministry called the Birthday Treasure Chest. Girourard's dad is in the Army Guard Reserve. She had a sideline view of the Revs pregame warmups and enjoyed the game from the exclusive Putnam Club.
Girourard is a volunteer for the Make-A-Wish Foundation and the founder of a children's ministry called the Birthday Treasure Chest. She began her ministry at age 9 and since then, has helped more than 500 families.
The Birthday Treasure Chest is a place that struggling families can go and select gifts, puzzles, books and games of their choice at no cost to the family. Lucy has also organized and donated a U-Haul full of super-hero costumes and craft supplies to St Jude's Children's Research Hospital.
The Revs' Hero of the Match program honors a local first responder, member of the armed forces or individual making a difference in the community at each home game during the 2019 season.
