Rochester teen faces felony assault charge in July stabbing on Bridge Street

ROCHESTER - A Rochester man was arrested on Wednesday in a Bridge Street stabbing from July.

Jacob Alexander Dion, 19, of 397 Portland St., turned himself in at the Rochester Police Station around 2:15 p.m. after learning that a warrant for his arrest had been signed.

The violent confrontation occurred on July 9 around 8:45 p.m. after police say Dion got into an argument with an 18-year-old victim and stabbed him in the stomach.

The victim was taken to Frisbie Memorial Hospital with what were described as nonlife-threatening wounds. He was treated and later released.

When police arrived on scene the suspect had fled, but he came to the Police Department about 40 minutes later to give his statement.

Dion was not initially arrested while police sought to conduct more interviews prior to charging him.

"These two men knew each other, so we don't feel the public is at risk," Rochester Police Capt. Jason Thomas said at the time.

Dion was charged with first degree assault, which can carry up to a 15-year prison sentence if convicted.

He was being held on $2,500 cash bail with an arraignment set for today at Strafford County Superior Court.
