Rochester Police to offer youth academy course

ROCHESTER - The Rochester Police Department is now taking applications for the 2013/2014 Rochester Police Junior Citizen’s Police Academy. This is the first Citizen’s Academy put on by the Rochester Police Department that is specifically geared to youth ages 14 to 20. The Academy will run from Nov.5 to Jan.14.   

The Academy classes will be held at Spaulding High School on Tuesday afternoons from 3-6 p.m. Transportation (a bus ride) from the Rochester Middle School to the High School will be provided to those Middle School students who wish to attend.  

Participants will be exposed to the many functions and layers of their police department through presentations by department employees, hands-on tactical training, ridealongs with the officers.

All participants must be 14 to 20 years of age at the commencement of the academy.  

The class is limited to 25 participants and will be conducted on a first come, first served basis, with preference given to Rochester residents. Applications and Release of Information Authorization forms are required to be filled out and signed by a parent/guardian if the teenager is under the age of 18.   Participants must pass a brief background check to include a criminal records check.
