ROCHESTER - Police say a Rochester man was driving drunk late on Sunday night when he left the scene of a pedestrian accident on Lowell Street near the Revolution Church.

Leslie W. Pollard, the husband of Rochester Economic Development Manager Karen Pollard, was arrested and charged with felony conduct after an accident for allegedly leaving the scene and also misdemeanor DWI.

The initial call came in to police around 11:30 p.m. when a passing motorist was flagged down by the injured pedestrian, a 28-year-old Rochester woman who was walking in the vicinity of the church when she was struck.

About five minutes later police dispatch records show a call came in from someone who thought they may have hit someone in the same vicinity. Police then went to the Pollard residence at 17 Hemlock St., where an investigation was begun and Pollard was arrested.

“The initial call was from a passer-by who was flagged down by the victim,” said Rochester Police Capt. Paul Toussaint. “Then we got a call from the owner of the vehicle, Mr. Pollard.”

The woman, meanwhile, was transported to Frisbie Memorial Hospital with nonlife-threatening injuries to her shoulder and later released.

According to Police, the car involved in the accident, a black 2011 Ford Taurus, is registered to Pollard, but Toussaint would not elaborate or any damage the vehicle may have sustained.

Pollard was released on $5,000 personal recognizance bail with an arraignment date of Jan. 12 in Rochester District Court.

Karen Pollard, who was reportedly in the car at the time of the incident, was not charged, Toussaint said.

The Pollards home on Hemlock Street is just a short distance from the Revolution Church at 87 Lowell St.

Conduct after an accident is a Class B felony, punishable by up to three and a half to seven years in prison and a $4,000 fine.
