ROCHESTER - A Rochester man remains held on high bail today after his arrest last week in an armed robbery and fight that occurred at the Washington Street Shell last month.
Matthew Anderson, 35, of Rochester, who was arrested on Aug. 26, has been charged with simple assault, criminal mischief and armed robbery.
Officers first got involved in the case around 7 a.m. on Aug. 19 as they responded to a report of a fight involving four males.
Upon arrival all those involved in the fisticuffs had fled, but through investigation police were able to identify them all, Rochester Police Capt. Todd Pinkham said on Thursday.
"During the investigation, we learned that two males were fighting two other males," Pinkham said. "Two men jumped a male near the air pump and another male stepped in to assist the male being beat up."
It was reported that during the confrontation one of the males pulled out a knife and told the other males to empty their pockets, Pinkham said.
Anderson was arraigned on Aug. 27 and remains held at Strafford County Jail on $4,200 bail. The most serious charge of robbery is a Class B felony punishable by up to seven years in state prison.
Pinkham said the fight does not appear to be a random attack, and some of the parties were known to each other.
More arrests are likely.
Anderson was also arrested on several other charges earlier on Aug. 26, including receiving stolen property, false report to law enforcement and drug possession.
