ROCHESTER - Rochester Police on Wednesday arrested a city man on negligent homicide charges in connection with a fatal motor vehicle accident in August in which a man riding in the cargo area of a U-Haul truck died in a Chestnut Hill Road crash.
Albert Crement, 62, the operator of the truck, was also charged with driving after revocation/suspension, possession of controlled drugs and transporting drugs in a motor vehicle. Killed in the Aug. 22 accident was Tyler Webber, 28, of Rochester.
When police arrived at the accident scene in the area of Roger Allen Park around 12:50 p,m, they found the U-Haul truck off the northbound lane with heavy damage into a tree.
Webber, who was found in the rear nonpassenger cargo area of the U-Haul, was pronounced dead at the scene.
Crement was transported to Frisbie Memorial Hospital to be treated for injuries; another female passenger was transported to Portsmouth Regional Hospital with serious injuries.
Police believe Crement, who did not have a valid license to drive, was under the influence of illegal drugs at the time of the accident and passed out at the wheel.
Police did not speculate on why Webber was in the cargo area, where passengers are prohibited.
"There was no window or door connecting the cab of the truck to the cargo area, and it did not appear he was moved there after the accident," Rochester Police Capt. Todd Pinkham said this afternoon.
Crement was held on $1,000 cash bail and transported to Strafford County Jail pending an arraignment today.
