ROCHESTER - Robert A Bush Jr., 83, of Rochester, died peacefully in his home of 51 years surrounded by his family at 11:11 p.m., May 13, 2024, following a fearless battle with cancer.
Bob was born on Nov. 18, 1940 in Newburyport, Mass., to Salvation Army parents, Captains Robert Arnold and Mollie Selma Bush Sr. He had a sister, Carol Anne, and an adopted brother, Randall Davis of Kentucky. Bob spent his school years in various schools in Massachusetts, New Hampshire and Vermont. Upon graduation from high school, he attended college in Kentucky and Vermont graduating in 1962 with a BS degree.
Bob married Barbara Bishop on June 17, 1967, at Old Orchard Beach, Maine. She was the love of his life and he looked forward to celebrating their 57th anniversary next month. Together they had three children: Deborah Jean (married to Paul Hendrickson), Robert Arnold Bush III, Kenneth Allen (married to Christina Wall). These three children provided him with 3 beloved grandchildren (Paul Hendrickson Jr, Jessica (Hendrickson) Lane, Joseph Bush) and great-grandchildren (Blake, Graham, Kieran). Bob predeceased all in this close and loving family and will be dearly missed.
Bob spent several years in the elementary education system and then over 20 years teaching elementary education at the NH State Prison. He loved the position and often stated, "I teach to a captive audience." Bob was an active member of various clubs throughout the years, and always active in the Salvation Army. Being raised in the SA, Bob's spiritual blessings never failed. He loved to sing "Army" songs and read his Bible daily.
