Rev. Wayne Nelson ... Baltimore Orioles fan; at 78

ROCHESTER - The Rev. Wayne Nelson, 78, died on Friday July 12, 2024, at the Birch Healthcare Center following a period of failing health.

Born June 25, 1946, in Baltimore, Md., he was the son of the late Jimmie and Gladys (Stevens) Nelson.

Wayne graduated from high school in Baltimore and went on to Anderson University to complete his education in Theology. He then moved to Rochester in 1971 to become the pastor of the Church of God. Wayne was a fan of the Baltimore Orioles and loved to read and write.

Members of his family include his stepdaughters Trudy Fitts and husband Michael of Barrington; and Denise Denny and husband Ray of Gonic; his grandchildren Jessica and Justin, and his great-grandchildren Julien, Noah, Caleb, and Zoey, his sister in law Linda Nelson of Staunton, Va.; and his best friend Patty Dyer and her daughter Sonja, many nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his wife Fay (Lowry) Nelson, and his brother Cliff Nelson.
