ROCHESTER - Appointment free browsing makes it easy to stop by at your convenience. Put us on your to-do list when you are out doing your errands, and go home with movies, music, books or audiobooks. Don't forget to check out our Little Free Library in front of the building for free surprises. You never know what you'll find!

Quarantining Items

Patrons have been asking about whether returned items are still being quarantined. All returned materials are quarantined for 3 days. We ask that you please continue to put books and periodicals in the drive-up book drop, and DVDs, music CDs and audiobooks in the media drop next to the building, near the ground floor/ Children's Room entrance.

Appointment Free Browsing

The Rochester Public Library is now open for browsing without needing an appointment. We are open Mon-Wed 9:00-8:00, Thur-Fri 9:00-5:00.

RPL to-Go, the Library's curbside service, will continue through the summer.

For now, the Library will be open at half capacity. This shouldn't have any impact on patrons using the main or second floors of the Library, but it may impact families using the Children's Room. We will be as accommodating as we can for families, but this is the age group that doesn't yet have access to vaccinations, so we are erring on the side of caution. Still, we hope families will feel comfortable coming to the Library. The Children's Room is getting ready to start its Summer Reading Program on June 21st, and they have a number of outdoor programs planned. Summer Reading Programs for Teens and Adults are also being planned.

Inter-Library Loans

If you're looking for a book, DVD, audiobook or other item and can't find it in our catalog ,then just fill out an Inter-library loan slip and our amazing ILL Librarian, Donna, will stop at nothing to track it down for you! New patrons will have to wait 3 months to request an item from another library.

Tech Help

Anyone needing help with Library related technology can call the Library to schedule an appointment.

Kait's Recommendations

Assistant Librarian, Kait, shares a great list, this week. She says:

"June is Queer Pride Month and one of my favorite ways to celebrate is by reading queer books! When it comes to books in the LGBTQIAP+ lineup, some letters have more representation than others. The 'A', which stands for Asexual and Aromantic (or ace and aro), can be tough to find books for, but luckily, more and more are being published every week! Today I'm recommending ten of my favorite books that feature Asexual and Aromantic characters. Several of them are #ownvoices, which means that the author identifies with the Asexual and/or Aromantic representation as well!"

The Marvelous by Claire Kann

A Sisterhood of Secret Ambitions by Sheena Boekweg

Speak for Yourself by Lana Wood Johnson

The [Un]Popular Vote by Jasper Sanchez

This Golden Flame by Emily Victoria

Belle Révolte by Linsey Miller

Now Entering Addamsville by Francesca Zappia

Tarnished Are The Stars by Rosiee Thor

Beneath the Citadel by Destiny Soria

Every Heart a Doorway by Seanan McGuire

hoopla Recommendation

Main Desk Librarian, Stephanie, shares: "I am completely hooked on hoopla audiobooks! It's so easy to use and syncs easily between your computer and phone. I just listened to The Lost Apothecary by Sarah Penner, which was so good, I wanted to keep working in my kitchen so I could keep listening. Three narrators tell the story of three women, in two time periods. In the present, Caroline is on an anniversary trip to London, without her husband, who she found out had been having an affair with a co-worker. Her husband had belittled her dreams of studying classic British literature and the history that goes along with it.

In the past of 1791, Nella is an apothecary, but with a sideline of creating poisons for women to revenge their wrongs against the men in their lives. One day, Eliza, a 12-year old girl servant enters her shop with a request from her mistress. Something that would change their lives and as a result, will affect their future, as well. How Nella and little Eliza's lives intersect with Caroline's is what makes this such a compelling listen, or read, the Library has the print version available. Highly recommended!"
