LEBANON - Adam Horr of Dover, N.H., was recently awarded a citation for bravery by Maine State Police for his heroic efforts to save a Lebanon girl who was being mauled by two pit bulls in her River Road yard in April.
The two pit bulls had escaped from their back-yard enclosure and were biting the 12-year-old girl around the neck and shoulder when Horr ran from a neighbor’s home and intervened.
Despite severe risk from being attacked, himself, Horr kicked the animals and hit them with a broom he’d picked up to finally help get the girl to safety. Horr sustained multiple bites in the attack.
Many said if it weren’t for Horr, the girl might have been killed.
The two dogs were sent to a Maine shelter to be checked for rabies and later euthanized.
The youngster who was bitten is doing fine, her mother said.
