Residents can bring used oil down to the public works facility between 7 a.m. and 3 p.m. Monday through Friday to be disposed of at no charge.
The Department of Public Works facility on Old Dover Road is a recycling center for used motor oil from Rochester residents and has been for several years.
The Public Works facility uses the used oil for “energy recovery,” which means that it is burned in a specially designed used motor oil furnace and aids in providing heat to the vehicle maintenance garage portion of the facility saving the city money on fuel costs.
The used oil must be engine crankcase oil only, and not mixed with water, solvents or gasoline.
