ROCHESTER - Rochester Police today are searching for a man they say committed several felony assaults on Thursday afternoon, an incident that drew state and local police as well as the Strafford County SWAT team and closed part of Washington Street for several hours.
Michael W. Lovely, 33, of 239 Washington St., Rochester, has active warrants for second degree assault, simple assault, criminal mischief and criminal threatening, all Class B felonies.
The incident unfolded a little before 3 p.m. when Rochester Police responded to the residence for a reported domestic disturbance. Upon arrival they safely removed an adult female and children from the residence.
Based on information gathered, it was determined a male who could be armed may be still inside the residence.
Officers then set up a perimeter, and the Strafford County Regional Tactical Operations Unit was activated and responded to the scene.
During this time, Washington Street from Chesley Hill Road to Estes Road was closed.
A search was performed, however Lovely got away.
The suspect is described an a black male, about 5'10" and 140 pounds.
Washington Street was later reopened around 7:40 p.m.
