ROCHESTER - A fully indoor pickleball complex proposed for a Gonic Road location will go before the planning board tonight, seeking an amendment from a July 2022 proposal that would eliminate several formerly proposed outdoor courts.
Harry Wesson of Wesson Realty LLC originally obtained a permit for eight outdoor courts, but project manager and co-owner Scott Lawler said today that they wanted to amend the proposal to eliminate the outdoor courts and go fully indoors with eight courts.
Lawler said he expects the proposal will move forward and that it could be open for business as early as next year.
He said the facility would have locker rooms, a pro shop and seating for those watching the games. He said he expects there will tournaments as well.
Lawler added he believes there will be plenty of interest in winter play for the sport that has grown exponentially in popularity in the past few years.
The facility will be located at 389 Gonic Road.
The 2022 approval included the construction of a 16,163 square foot indoor pickleball facility with five courts and four outdoor pickleball courts in a series of phases.
The proposed amendment is to remove the outdoor pickleball area and increase the building to be 24,300 square feet.
The courts will be open 7 days a week, typically from 6 a.m. to 9 p.m.
