Police urge public to be vigilant following brutal killing of Concord couple

CONCORD - A husband and wife found dead Thursday in a wooded area beside a Concord trail both died of multiple gunshot wounds, according to a coroner's report filed on Friday.

The bodies of Stephen Reid, 67, and Djeswende Reid, 66. were discovered in the early evening hours in the area of the Broken Ground Trails, which are off of Portsmouth Street in Concord.

The autopsies conducted by Deputy Chief Medical Examiner Mitchell Weinberg also determined that manner of his death was homicide.

The investigation to date has revealed that the Reids left their residence in the Alton Woods apartment complex around 2:22 p.m. on Monday afternoon, and went for a walk that led them to the area of the Broken Ground Trails. Family and friends did not see or hear from them after that.

The Concord Police are seeking the public's assistance with the investigation. Anyone who saw the Reids on Monday or have any information related to their disappearance and deaths are asked to contact the Concord Police Department.

In addition, anyone in the areas where the Reids walked who has a home or business security or video surveillance system is asked to review the recordings to determine if the Reids were captured on video.

The investigation is ongoing and additional information will be released as it becomes available, while protecting the integrity of the investigation.

In the meantime, residents of the area are encouraged to be vigilant and take normal precautions as they go about their daily lives. Any suspicious behavior or activity encountered should be reported to the Concord Police Department.
