LEBANON - State Police are urging pedestrians that walk along town roads at night to be extra vigilant about traffic, wear reflective clothing and carry a flashlight to alert motorists in the wake of the death on Monday of a Lebanon man who was struck while walking on Milton Mills Road last week.

Ryan Kelley, 34, of Milton Mills Road, was walking about a half mile from his home when he was struck by a Toyota Rav 4 SUV last Monday evening soon after darkness fell.

Maine State Police Trooper Kyle Wells said Kelley was wearing dark clothing and walking on the right side of the road, with traffic, when it’s best to walk against traffic so you can better see approaching vehicles.

Wells said at least two motorists reported to police later they had swerved to avoid Kelley just minutes before he was struck in an area between Keay Road and the Acton line.

Wells said the York County Attorneys Office was notified, and no charges will be forthcoming as a result of the accident.

Wells said Kelley lived with his brother and didn’t have a license so he enjoyed taking walks.
