Police probe Somersworth shooting they say may have been accidental

SOMERSWORTH - Somersworth Police are investigating a Tuesday shooting that they say was likely accidental.

The incident unfolded around 10:35 a.m. when officers received a report of an individual with a gunshot wound to his hand.

Upon arriving on scene emergency responders encountered a male with a gunshot wound to his hand and several others inside an apartment. The initial investigation has shown the shooting was likely accidental, Somersworth Police said in a release. The injured person was transported by Stewart's Ambulance Service to Portsmouth Regional Hospital with what were described as nonlife threatening injuries.

The firearm and ammunition has been seized pending the outcome of an investigation.

The identities of those involved were not released.
