FOXBOROUGH, Mass. - Police are investigating whether a Newmarket man thought to have died at Gillette Stadium due to a medical issue was, in fact, killed in a fight with a Dolphins fan sitting a few rows behind him.
The game was in the fourth quarter during a comeback attempt by New England when Dale Mooney, 53, of Newmarket, N.H., reportedly got into a confrontation with a man wearing a Dolphins' jersey, witnesses say.
Cell phone video shows Mooney getting medical attention from security staff who rushed to help him after he was punched on the side of the head, one witness said.
The incident occurred around 10:55 p.m.
Mooney was transported to Sturdy Memorial Hospital in Attleboro where he was pronounced deceased.
Police say the incident remains under investigation, and an autopsy is planned in the coming days.
