ROCHESTER - A Rochester man is alleged to have cut a hole near an overhead door to gain access and steal items from to the Market Basket at The Ridge early last Sunday.
Daniel Green Jr, 26, a Rochester transient, was charged with burglary and criminal mischief.
Police got involved around 1:30 a.m. as they responded to an alarm call at the supermarket.
When officers arrived, an employee on site notified them of a banging sound that was heard behind the store before the alarm went off, according to Rochester Police Capt. Todd Pinkham.
"When officers went around the building to investigate, they located what appeared to be a hole that had just been cut near an overhead door and an adjacent door was ajar," Pinkham said. "Officers cleared the building, however no one was found inside."
After reviewing surveillance video officers determined entry was gained to the building, but the suspect had left prior to their arrival.
"Police then searched the area and located a male matching the description of the suspect," Pinkham said. "Police also located some items reported to have just been stolen."
Green was arraigned on Monday and remains held at Strafford County Jail on no bail.
