Paul Sanfacon ... active in Rochester youth sports; at 94

BARRINGTON - Paul Sanfacon, 94, of 1 Heron Way, Barrington, died on Dec. 5 2022. He was born Sept. 13, 1928, in Rochester, the son of Eddie and Madeline Sylvain Sanfacon. He lived in Rochester for 50 years, then moved to Barrington to live on Ayers Lake for the remainder of his life.

He graduated from Spaulding High School in 1946 where he played baseball, football and made all state hockey. In 1949 he signed a professional baseball contract with the Philadelphia Athletics, and was also a member of Allain's Jewelry baseball team that went to the Nationals in Witchita, Kan. He served in the Army Signal Corp. in Japan and upon his return he worked at Palmer Plumbing Supply for 21 years and retired from the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard in 1990.

Paul had a deep love of sports and supporting his local community. Over the years he helped organize the Rochester Babe Ruth League, Blue Hills Ski Club, and Rochester Youth Hockey. He coached and umpired for 35 years and was also a member of the Mount Whittier and Moose Mountain Ski Patrol. He was inducted into the Rochester Elks Sports Hall of Fame in 1990 and was also a member of the American Legion Post 7, Knights of Columbus No. 2408 and an active member of St. Mary's Church.

He was a big fan of the Boston Red Sox, loved playing golf with his longtime friends and really enjoyed getting a hole in one at the Farmington Country Club.

Paul built a wonderful family legacy with his wife of 73 years Kathleen Haley Sanfacon. They had four children: their daughter Linda and her husband Michael Chick, his sons Richard Sanfacon and wife Madelyn, Gerald Sanfacon and wife Diane, Ronald Sanfacon and wife Laurie.

He had 12 grandchildren, Joseph Veno and wife Debbie, James Veno and wife Annalise Veno, Molly Sanfacon, Jill Sanfacon French and husband Brian, Tyler Sanfacon, Alex Sanfacon and Finance Kayleigh, Hayley Sanfacon, and Dylan Sanfacon, along with three stepgrandchildren, Carter Pelletier, Connor Mondou and Cameron Mondou.

He also had 10 great grandchildren, Addison and Audrina French, Isabella Veno and Remy Veno, Faith, Wyatt, Liam and Owen Veno, Arianna and Arlo Sanfacon.
