ROCHESTER - A Rochester transient is under arrest after allegedly stealing a dollar from a 12-year-old girl who was walking from the Common to the nearby Dunkin Donuts to make a purchase.
Rochester Police got involved after the girl's mother called police dispatch to report the incident around 10:35 a.m.
Rochester Police Capt. Jason Thomas said the unidentified girl was walking with the dollar bill in her hand when she was approached by a man asking for money.
"When the girl said no, and then went to put it in her pocket he took the dollar bill out of her hand and walked away," Thomas said today.
An eyewitness description led to Rochester transient Frank Otis Ward being identified as a suspect.
Moments later another officer saw Ward at Walgreen's, where he is not allowed due to a No Trespass order.
Ward, 62, was charged with criminal Trespass, theft and contempt from previously being out on bail.
