GONIC - A couple from Nottingham sustained serious injuries Wednesday when their motorcycle's rear tire blew out on Route 125 in Gonic.
The accident occurred around 6:20 p.m. in the area of Brookfarm Village.
When responders arrived they found the motorcycle as well as its operator and passenger on the shoulder of the southbound lane.
Police say the 2004 Harley Davidson was traveling south when the rear tire popped and the motorcycle went down ejecting both riders.
The operator and passenger were identified as Michael Lurvey, 41, and Katherine Maleham, 31, both of Nottingham.
Both Lurvey and Maleham sustained serious injuries and were taken to Frisbie Memorial Hospital by Frisbie EMS.
The affected area of the roadway was closed for a short period while the investigation was conducted with traffic diverted around the accident scene.
