LEBANON - An 18-year-old Lebanon woman was injured on Monday in the first of two serious accidents on Route 202 that occurred within hours of each other at separate ends of town.
The first accident occurred around 12:15 p.m. near West Lebanon Road when a line of vehicles slowed for a dump truck making a turn into a local sand pit and a Chevrolet Cavalier that failed to slow down crashed into a Chevrolet pickup, according to a press release from Lebanon Rescue.
The Lebanon woman, who was driving the Cavalier, was transported to
Frisbie Hospital with serious but what are believed to be nonlife- threatening injuries," the release stated. She was wearing her seat belt.
The driver of the pickup was a 33-year-old male from Lebanon. He was wearing his seat belt and was not injured.
The Cavalier, meanwhile, was destroyed.
The second accident happened around 5:45 at the intersection of Route 202 and Lower Middle Road.
According to the press release, a Toyota car was traveling westbound on Route 202 and had passed several vehicles when another vehicle ahead of it, a jeep also traveling westbound, had slowed to turn left onto Lower Middle Road when the collision occurred.
The jeep rolled into a grassy area, and the driver was ejected, while the Toyota came to rest in the eastbound lane, the press release stated.
The driver of the car, a 30-year-old female from Old Orchard Beach; and the driver of the jeep, a 36-year-old female from Sanford who was ejected in the crash, were both transported to Goodall Hospital in Sanford with serious but what are believed to be nonlife-threatening injuries.
Crews were on scene for about an hour, clearing the scene around 6:40 p.m. Traffic was closed to one lane as emergency crews worked.
Both vehicles were heavily damaged and had to be towed.
Both of yesterday’s accidents remain under Investigation by Maine State Police.
