ROCHESTER - Melvina Packard, 86, died Sunday Aug. 11, 2013, at home.
Born Feb. 2, 1927, in Mexico, Maine, she was the daughter of William and Florence (Worcester) McLafferty. She has resided in Rochester since 1969, previously living in Antrim.
Mrs. Packard worked as cafeteria staff at the University of New Hampshire for many years. She was a member of the Red Hat Society and the Southeastern New Hampshire Mineral Club. She enjoyed doing crafts including knitting and crocheting. She also loved cooking; especially desserts for her family, and her apple pies were the best around.
The widow of Earl Packard, who died in 2012, she is survived by two sons, Alan and wife Patricia (Mattina) Packard of Framingham, Mass, Bruce and wife Sabrinia (Sutherland) Packard of Orrington, Maine; grandchildren, John and Jake Pomelow, Jessikah Pomelow Perocchi; great granddaughters, Sophia Perocchi and Aliyah Pomelow, great-grandsons Amos Perocchi, and several cousins. She also leaves her beloved nieces, nephews, grandnieces, grandnephews, and many dear friends and neighbors.
A memorial service will be held Saturday Aug. 17, 2013, at 10 a.m. in the chapel of the R.M. Edgerly & Son Funeral Home, 86 South Main Street, Rochester, NH. Family and friends may visit one hour prior to the service 9-10. Burial will be in the Maine State Veterans Cemetery in Augusta, Maine, at a later date.
