LEBANON - Marjorie L. Blood, 86, of Lebanon, died on Monday, April 29, 2013, at Southern Maine Medical Center in Biddeford.
She was born in Rochester, N.H., on Sept. 12, 1926, to Walter and Florence (McCobb) Lord. She grew up on the Red Wing Farm in Lebanon which had been in her family for over 200 years, spanning eight generations. She lived and worked on the farm for virtually her entire life. She attended the little red schoolhouse on Center Road in Lebanon and later graduated from Sanford High School. After graduation she broadened her horizons for a time by living and working in New York City. After returning to New England she married Charles Blood in 1949 and together they raised three children and shared 43 years of marriage until his death in 1992.
Marjorie has always had the town of Lebanon's interests at heart. When her family was young she worked on restoring town monuments as well as planting and maintaining town gardens.
She was a member of the Lebanon Historical Society and was instrumental in helping to research and establish the 150th anniversary monument to the Lebanon soldiers of the Civil War. Every year she would spend time helping to locate and place flags on the graves of veterans buried in Lebanon for Memorial Day. Marjorie was a music lover and enjoyed playing the piano and the organ. She was a lifelong member of the First Congregational Church in Lebanon where she used to teach Sunday school and had served as the organist for many years. She will be remembered as a loving and devoted mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and sister and will be dearly missed by family and friends.
Surviving are three children, Jane Bastey and her husband Mark of Freeport, Leon Blood and his wife Susan of Lebanon and Penny Briant and her husband Jerry of Naples, Fla.; four grandchildren, two great-grandchildren and two sisters, Beatrice Lord of Lebanon and Helen Baker of Easton, Mass.
Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. on Thursday, May 2, at the Carll-Heald & Black Funeral Home, located at 580 Main St. in Springvale. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, May 3 followed by interment at the family cemetery in Lebanon.
