New charges against mom arrested in child endangerment could now draw jail time

ROCHESTER - A Rochester woman who had her children taken from her in June after police say they found an extreme stench of animal excrement inside her Briar Ridge Estates home had her child endangerment charges upgraded on Friday to Class A misdemeanors that could draw a year in jail each.

Keni-Lynn Mone, 38, of Rochester, surrendered to police after the new arrest warrants were executed. Mone had originally faced two counts of Class B misdemeanor child endangerment counts, which carried no potential jail time, only a possible fine.

A teenage boy and a preteen girl were removed from the home after police called on Mone due to neighbor complaints about rats in the neighborhood. The children were taken by another family member with assistance from the Division for Children, Youth and Families.

Police found large amounts of trash, rats and animal waste inside the home.

A dog was also removed from the home. Mone also faces a Class B misdemeanor charge of animal cruelty.

Mone was arraigned on the new charges on Monday in Rochester District Court where her personal recognizance bail was continued.
