ROXBURY - A Nelson man died Saturday in a head-on crash on Route 9 in Roxbury.
The crash occurred near the Sullivan town line around 8:10 a.m. when police say a 2006 Chevrolet Malibu operated by Michael Carney, 32, was traveling westbound when it lost control and veered off onto the westbound shoulder, according to safety officials. The Chevrolet then traveled back onto the roadway and crossed the center line into the eastbound lane where it struck a 2021 Freightliner Utility Truck operated by Joseph Jardine, 57,
of Walpole.
Carney was transported to Cheshire Medical Center where he died. Jardine was uninjured.
State Police were assisted at the scene by the Keene Police Department, Keene Fire Department, Cheshire County Sheriff's Office, DiLuzio Ambulance Service, Sullivan Fire and Rescue, and the New Hampshire Department of Transportation. Rte. 9 was closed for around three hours while the crash was investigated.
