STRAFFORD - Neil A. Banks, 79, died on Thursday Jan. 30, 2025, at Portsmouth Regional Hospital following a period of declining health.
Born Nov. ember 10, 1945, in Amesbury, Mass., he was the grandson of Florence (Hills) Banks, son of Claire (Banks) Bunker and stepson of Lloyd 'Joe' Bunker.
Neil made a career as a brick and stone mason for over 50 years across New Hampshire. His master craftsmanship is something hundreds of families will enjoy for many years to come. Over the course of his career a handful of gentlemen apprenticed with Neil to learn the masonry trade from him. He humbly enjoyed teaching anyone willing to learn from his experience in a variety of interests. In his time away from masonry, he was an avid outdoorsman, deer hunter, fly and ice fisherman, woodsman, a history buff and a dedicated admirer of nature. He had a keen eye for recognizing and appreciating the beauty and wonder of the natural world. A quiet though dynamic man with a quick wit and a hearty sense of humor, he enjoyed a visit with good friends and family sharing stories and laughter. Neil took great joy in caring for his family. His departure leaves them feeling honored to have been encouraged to pursue their interests and take advantage of every opportunity to appreciate the magnificent simplicities of life.
