ROCHESTER - A Middleton man was seriously injured today when he swerved to avoid a stopped vehicle on Farmington Road and veered down an embankment and into a small creek.
Police responded to the crash scene near 160 Farmington Road around 12:40 p.m. and found that a 2001 Jeep Wrangler, driven by James J. Fetter, 68. was driving westbound when he approached a vehicle stopping to turn left into a driveway.
Fetter maneuvered hard to the right avoiding the stopped car, but left the roadway down an embankment into a creek or small river where the vehicle landed on its roof.
Witnesses removed Fetter from the Jeep, which was leaking oil, and rendered aid. Fetter was transported to Frisbie Memorial Hospital with what were described as serious but nonlife threatening injuries.
Farmington Road remained opened thanks to the help of State and Farmington Police who assisted with traffic control.
The case remains under investigation.
