SANFORD, Maine- Metrocast Communications, the video, Internet and phone provider with offices in Maine and New Hampshire, has launched nine new WiFi hotspots in downtown Sanford and Springvale. The hotspots will provide free, wireless web access to Metrocast residential customers already subscribing to Metrocast "High Speed Internet" or "High Speed Ultra'.
The Sanford hotspots include the downtown area (Pleasant St.), the Louis B. Goodall Memorial Library (Main St.), Acorn Street (near Walgreens), Sanford Plaza (Main St.), The Center for Shopping (Main Street near Smitty's Cinema), and Goodall Park/Benton Playground (Roberts St.). The Springvale hotspots are located on Main Street and Oak Street.
"Metrocast customers will now get even more value from their MetroCast High Speed Internet service," said Josh Barstow, vice president of Advanced Services for Metrocast. "Customers will enjoy access to the Internet outside the home, which not only is a great convenience, but also will allow users to save on their cellular data plans."
Metrocast customers with wireless-enabled devices may access the WiFi signals from their smart phones, tablets, laptops and other wireless devices by selecting "CableWiFi" and logging- in with their MetroCast account credentials.
The hotspot deployment is the outside complement to Metrocast's Wireless Home Networking option, which provides in-home WiFi service for Metrocast High Speed Internet customers on up to three computers and multiple wireless devices via a DOCSIS 3.0 modem with a built-in 802.11n wireless router. Metrocast also announced earlier this year that it had boosted its residential high speed Internet speeds up to 75 Mbps downstream.
