Mayor, 8 City Council seats have no opposition as filing deadline looms

ROCHESTER - With less than a week left before the close of the municipal election filing period, no one has signed up to challenge Rochester Mayor Paul Callaghan, while eight City Council races remain uncontested.
The eight City Council slots that are currently unopposed include Ward 2 Seat A, where only former Rochester city manager Daniel Fitzpatrick has filed, Ward 3 Seat A where only Bryan Karolian is listed, Ward 5 Seat A where incumbent Alex de Geofroy has filed, Ward 6 Seat A where Matthew Richardson is the lone candidate; Ward 1 Seat B where incumbent Tim Fontneau is unopposed, Ward 2 Seat B where incumbent Amy Malone is running unopposed, Ward 3 Seat B where David Herman is running unopposed and Ward 5 Seat B where incumbent Donald Hamann is the lone filer.
Current City Council incumbents who have not filed yet include Deputy Mayor Pete Lachapelle, Laura Hainey of Ward 4 Seat B, James Gray of Ward 6 Seat B, Skip Gilman of Ward 1 Seat A, Steve Beaudoin of Ward 2 Seat A, John Larochelle of Ward 3 Seat B, Ashley Desrochers of Ward 4 Seat B and Dana Berlin of Ward 6 Seat A.
The filing period for Rochester's municipal elections closes on Monday at 5 p.m.
The municipal election is set for Nov. 7.
